The latest recruit to The PA Guide team, Hannah who works as an Executive Assistant at Oxygen Finance, is a relative newcomer to the city, having only moved here two years ago. In this article, she tells us about some of her favourite hangouts in Moseley.
After making the move to Birmingham two years ago, I have slowly fallen in love with the changing ways of the city. Having been born and bred in Kent, life here is certainly very different, and definitely more relaxed than the constant rushing around that comes with working in London. Moseley is one of my favourite spots to spend a summer weekend in Birmingham. Ever-changing and growing, this area has some great drinking and eating spots to while away a sunny weekend. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend you spend a Saturday in Moseley exploring all it has to offer, from its diverse range of pubs, gardens to coffee shops and amazing eateries.
Here are a few of my favourites:
The Prince of Wales
Alcester Road, Moseley, Birmingham, B13 8EE
What may look like a traditional, small classic English pub with a royal name to match – The Prince of Wales is so much more, especially when you enter and make your way out to the hidden pub garden. Set under a large marquee, equipped with patio heaters and home to Shed Du Vin where on Thursday’s it’s all about Wine and Cheese. They have many events all year round and rooms to hire. Serving not only great food and classic ales but also offering an array of vibrant cocktails. This pub is certainly anything but traditional and is my favourite spot to lose track of time on a sunny Saturday!
Open since 2014, this quirky pub has an amazing menu for food and drink. They offer an array of drinks including Craft Keg's, Shakes and Cocktails, there is certainly plenty to choose from! There is a weekly quiz night and live music regularly. One Trick is already booking for viewings of the World Cup so be quick if you want a great spot to enjoy the footie! Make sure you check this place out especially the burgers! 241 on Tuesdays!
The Dark Horse
145 Alcester Road, Moseley, Birmingham, West Midlands, B13 8JP
Another of Moseley's quirky drinking sports offering a variety of live music and entertainment. Including incredible DJ nights, Stand-Up Comedy, Pub Quizzes and Beer Festivals. By far the best part about the Dark Horse are its freshly cooked wood fired pizzas and its selection of 50 craft beers. They have a great calendar for summer events and offer venue hire from small to large groups. The Peaches & Cream IPA is a great choice for a sweet sunny day!
The Patrick Kavanagh
142 Trafalgar Road, Birmingham, West Midlands, B13 8BX
'Where Good Friends Gather' - Patrick Kavanagh's is slightly hidden away in Moseley and not on the main high street but worth a little walk to see what they have to offer. Offering another fantastic but different beer garden 'Pat Kav's' also provides a great menu for drinking with really affordable pricing! Especially if you are spending the day at the pub. This venue also provides a great function room for up to 50 people, equipped with its' very own bar. The pub quiz is held every Tuesday at 8pm. Don't miss the Juke Box at the back!
93 Alcester Road, Moseley, Birmingham, West Midlands, B13 8DD
This is one of Moseley’s most unique restaurants, if you are looking for something a bit different for a private work event or family function, this beautiful venue paired with it’s amazing Indian cuisine will not disappoint.
Jazz, Funk & Soul Festival
Moseley Park - 6th-8th July
While there are many summer events that go on in Moseley this festival, has to be one fo the most vibrant and exciting! Tickets are £50 for the day. The line up looks great this year with Jimmy Cliff and Sister Sledge headlining. Check out the website for ticket sales and volunteer opportunities for what looks like it's going to be an amazing weekend in Mosley!
