One good thing to come out of the last year is the rise of the at-home food and drink kits. Dishoom is one of the newest additions to the city, having opened summer 2020 in the Paradise development. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant has proved to be a popular addition to Birmingham. Furthermore, during the lockdown they launched the ‘The Dishoom Bacon Naan Roll Kit’. This kit contains all the fresh ingredients as well as the instructions on how to create two of their famous bacon naan rolls. All accompanied by a cup of hot Masala Chai.

The home food and drink kit cost just £16 and is available for delivery nationwide. What’s more, for every Bacon Naan you make at home, Dishoom will donate a meal to Magic Breakfast. A charity who provide nourishing free meals to schools.

Fazenda Logo

Popular Argentinian restaurant Fazenda has recently launched its Fazenda at Home store. Purchase some of their favourite products from their suppliers, ranging from some incredible cuts of meat, charcuterie and even their delicious cheese bread. Fazenda has also added some helpful recipes to their website to allow you to recreate some of their delicious dishes from the comfort of your own home. They’re also working on a ‘Fazenda at Home’ box containing all the ingredients you’ll need for a delicious meal for two – we’ll keep you posted as and when this is released. Buddha Belly is another of Birmingham’s street food success stories. Normally a permanent fixture at the popular Digbeth Dining Club serving their delicious Thai food. As a result of the pandemic, Buddha Belly opened an online shop at the beginning of lockdown. Offering a pre-cooked selection of their most popular Thai curry dishes with sticky rice, as well as a cook-at-home version of their crispy chicken noodles. Overall you can order up to 10 meals which are each suitable for home freezing.

Rudys Pizza Logo

Rudy’s is one of our favourite places in the city for a delicious, authentic Neapolitan pizza. As well as being available for delivery in the city on Deliveroo, those who live a little further afield can now order from a selection of ‘bake at home pizzas’ which are hand made before being blast chilled and vacuum packed. 

The pizzas cost just £6.90 each and can be reheated quickly in your oven. You can from their Margherita, Carni, Portobello, Calabrese (our favourite) and vegan Calabrese. Minimum order is for four pizzas and can either be delivered by a courier or picked up in the pizzeria on Bennetts Hill.

Habaneros is a popular Mexican street food trader based on Temple Row – if you’ve ever walked past at lunchtime, you will have seen the long queues of people waiting to get their tasty burritos, nachos and tacos.

They’ve recently launched a selection of food kits which can be delivered to your door. All food is prepared fresh using free-range meat and local produce.  You can choose from DIY taco, nachos or burrito kits with a range of fillings and toppings or a delicious pulled pork Cuban sandwich. If you are looking for something healthy they even offer a selection of salad bowls.

Dishes start from £5.50 and if you order by 9 am you can get same-day delivery (in Birmingham) from Tuesday – Thursday. Delivery is free for orders of £25 or more.

Opus Logo

Opus is a contemporary fine dining restaurant based on Cornwall street, focussing on dishes made with the finest British ingredients. The restaurant has created ‘Opus to You’ a box containing a selection of prepared dishes and ingredients (plus instructions!) required to create a delicious three-course menu, with the option to include an extra cheese course or a bottle of wine hand-picked by their general manager. Costing £30 per person, you can also opt for a vegetarian or Sunday lunch box. Boxes can be delivered or collected from the restaurant.

Cote Logo

French Bistro Cote, which is based in the Mailbox, has launched an online shop called Cote at Home. Order from a selection of premium cuts of meat from their Boucherie. As well as artisan cheeses from their Fromagerie or selection of traditional French bread or pastries from their Boulangerie.

Cote at Home also offers a range of set menus and individual dishes if you don’t feel like cooking.

Minimum spend is £40 and nationwide delivery is just £4.95. If you spend over £80, delivery is free.

The recipient of Birmingham’s newest Michelin star, Aktar Islam. Aktar has created ‘Aktar at Home’, which offers a curry box as well as a Sunday roast box. 

The curry box from Michelin starred restaurant Opheem contains a selection of 10 traditional curry dishes. Developed by Aktar, they feature all the fresh and high quality produce available that week. The food kit costs £60-70 and contains enough for a very generous banquet for four. Alternatively, several meals for two, or a whole week of dinners for one.

Another option is Tte Sunday roast box from Pulperia, which costs just £60. It contains everything you’ll need to create an incredible beef roast with all the trimmings for 4 people.

Low n Slow is another Digbeth Dining Club favourite, serving Texas Inspired BBQ and Modern Mexican using Native Breed Meat & Seasonal Produce. 

Low n Slow have been putting together Sunday roast boxes. These contain quality roasted meats, potatoes, vegetables and gravy with full instructions on how to heat it up.
